Why Spring is the Best Time of Year for Roofing Projects

With warmer weather on the horizon, outdoor home improvement projects are inevitably going to fill our spring and summer to-do lists. After months of harsh weather, problems that were hidden under ice, snow and debris, could begin to make themselves apparent. To make sure that your home is protected, we recommend inspecting your roof at the start of spring to check for any issues or damage. Should you need a roof replacement, spring is, without a doubt, the best season for roof installation.

A common misconception among homeowners is that a roof is best installed in the summertime because of weather conditions. However, Spring is actually the best season for a few different reasons. Our schedules are more flexible, the temperature and weather aren’t as turbulent, and the timing of spring works well with most individuals’ lifestyles. Get ahead of the summertime rush and schedule your roofing repair or install in the spring. Here is why:

The Climate is Ideal For Shingle Installation

Not only is it a better climate for the workers to be outside in, it’s also helpful for the shingles themselves. Asphalt shingles need to be applied in moderate temperatures to avoid major issues and damage through the application. When it is too hot or too cold, the installation process isn’t as seamless. It also gives enough time for the sealer to be properly applied and do its job prior to hurricane season and the return of winter.

Spring is naturally a time to make adjustments after a long winter, so it’s great to group roof repairs into your spring cleaning schedule. Summer can bring rain storms and hurricanes that are more damaging than just the spring rain, and fall often means leaves falling off the trees and onto the roofs, adding more clean up for our roofers. Springtime has great conditions and makes for a seamless install!

The temperate spring climate is not as hot for our roofers who are having to spend hours on surfaces that are honestly a bit closer to the sun. Mid-temps are best for both materials and workers. No beating sun or intense humidity. During the warmer months, it can often be 30 degrees warmer on the top of the roof than on the ground, so the coolness of springtime acts as a relief when working.

At The Roofing Doctor, we do work year round, however, working in the winter and even summer can result in delays as a result of extreme weather. When you choose to replace your roof in the spring, the project will likely move at a faster pace since we will not have to pause the project due to storms.

You Get Ahead of The Curve

When you begin preparing for new roof installation early in the spring, it leaves plenty of time for you to do your proper research on the updates, products, and companies that might be a good fit for you and your home. This also gives the company you choose adequate time to get you a prompt and proper proposal and estimate. Springtime isn’t as busy for roofing companies since most homeowners are waiting until the summer. As it turns out, summer is better for both of us! This often means quicker project timelines and more control over when your project is completed.

While fall is also a great time to install a new roof, your options might be more limited in terms of companies availability to take on new projects, since everyone will be making the sprint to prepare their homes before winter strikes again. If you think you might have an issue with your roof, call in a professional roofing expert to inspect and advise.

Here at The Roofing Doctor, we want all of our customers to feel safe, secure and satisfied with their home from top to bottom. No matter the time of year, proper roof maintenance is crucial and we are here to help!
